An Herb to Meet this Season: Milky Oats (Avena sativa)
Traditional Uses:* Milky Oats are the same species as the beloved breakfast food, but are hand harvested from the stalks when the seed heads are still green and plump with soothing milk. That milk is a mucilaginous substance that can help with inflammation and irritation. The seeds or straw are commonly used as a gentle nervine for mental and physical fatigue. Many herbalists hail milky oats for their use with anxiety, insomnia, depression, addiction recovery, adrenal fatigue, post-partum complaints and stress. Excellent herb for external use with skin complaints such as rashes, eczema, psoriasis, and itchy dry skin.
